FOUR SEASON SPORTS NEWS

We are back this January!

As of January 2011 we will be back in Syl Apps and ready to go with some Roller Hockey. This will be the first time we have offered programs and leagues in the winter months but are very excited to get things underway. We will offer programs and leagues for all ages from 6 and Under through to 35 and over just as we do in the Spring and Summer. Another very cool aspect of the winter league is that it will have an ice hockey feel to it.  “When we use the word cool we mean it literally”, expressed Brock Murray Director of Operations for 4SS. “When you lace up your inline skates for this league and step out onto the floor you will likely take a quick look down at the surface to ensure its not ice. We feel this is going to add an interesting dimension to the game and one that will be embraced since normally it is very hot when playing roller hockey in Syl Apps.”

We are accepting registration now. Cost for the Adult League is $230 per player. Cost for the Youth programs will range from are $119 to $185 per player. Pick-up will also be available at a drop in rate of $8 per skate.

It’s A Wrap

The 2010 4SSRH Spring & Summer Season is officially in the books. 10 Under Champions – Team White, Young Guns Champions – Blue Angels, Masters Champions – Teal Steel.
In addition to the League Championships winding down we successfully held our first 4SSRH Tourney at Syl Apps on the 20 & 21. Despite the weather and the leaky roof which forced us to hold our Championship Game on Sunday it was great tourney! We had 8 teams in the tourney with London, Brampton, KW, Brantford and the Hometown Mudhogs in the house. There was even an NHLer in the rink playing for the Brantford Hitmen. Paul Szczechura of the Tampa Bay Lightning suited up and played with a very solid Hitmen team captained by Josh Renneboog.
After the Round Robin the top two teams in Gold Division were the Brantford Hitmen and the Hometown Canning Mudhogs while the third seed went to the Brampton Radicals. In the Silver Division the top team was the KW Rage followed by the Brantford Brickmen and the Ontario Blades from London.
The Gold Final would match up the Mudhogs and the Hitmen while the KW Rage and Ontario Blades would face-off in the Silver Final. The Silver Final would see both teams start the game battling the elements as the floor in the crease area would prove to be a challenge as it continued to sweat with the humidity. As the game went on the Rage would build a lead and not look back as they took the final 7 to 1. Top Scorer went to Adam Morin of the Ontario Blades and Top Goalie was Josh Ritter of the Brantford Brickmen.
The Gold Final would have to wait to be played on the Sunday as immediately following the Silver Final the rain would start to pour and the surface simply could not be played on. On a side note for all you Syl Apps followers… the roof is being repaired and will be good to go when we lay the floor back down in 2011. So onto the Gold Final which had the bleachers filled with more fans then I have ever seen for a roller hockey game at Syl Apps. The Mudhogs were geared and excited to be in the Finals after playing host for the weekend. The Hitmen had expected to be in the Final all weekend and they did not disappoint themselves. The puck drops on the final and the pace is quick as the Hitmen strike fast and quick with the opening goal of the game. Before you knew it they had themselves a 4 – 0 lead. But they did what many teams do and that is sit back, and as they did the Mudhogs came back and closed the score to within one before giving up a back breaker before the half that would give the Hitmen a 6-4 advantage. The second half started just as quick and the Mudhogs would have chances on one end but the difference was that every opportunity the Brantford team got they capitalized on. The Mudhogs would keep coming but the Hitmen would answer each time it got closer. When the horn sounded it was the Brantford Hitmen winning this years Gold Division Championship 10 - 7. Top Scorer went to Mike Read of the Canning Mudhogs and Top Goaltender was Dave Efithimiou of the Brantford Hitmen.
The tourney itself was the icing on the cake to a great season. Many new faces joined the league, both young and old and it set a great energetic vibration for years to come! I want to take this time to thank all of you who play, watch and support this amazing journey that 4SSRH is on as we continue to put roller hockey on the map in Brant County.
More notes …. AGS Roller Hockey gets underway at Woodman Park Community Centre
September 12th at 10am. For all those not familiar with AGS…its 2 on 2 roller hockey action in a gymnasium with an orange hockey ball. Don’t knock it till you try it! It’s great for your short game. Starts and stops are the key to this game and it doesn’t hurt if you can stickhandle in a phone booth too. September 15th is the Year End Banquet for both Masters and Young Guns Divisions at 6pm in Paris at the Murray Residence. November 26th – 28th is the Tour Cup in Utica Michigan. We will be taking Youth and Adult teams to this tourney. For all of the above if you are interested in being a part please drop me an email or text.

4SS & Galassos Performance Training Team Up in 2010

Galassos Performance TrainingHello Everyone,

When Brock and I were chatting on the phone recently, discussing what would make sense for the first posting, I decided that I would post some links to my Blog.  These links discuss the question that I receive the most and that is how do I get more fit?  What you need to is HIIT it.  HIIT is High Intensity Interval Training.  To find out more about HIIT click on the links below to read about it as well as see a video demonstration of the training.

Also,  if you have any specific training questions related to Four Season Sports please feel free to e-mail me at mgalasso@golden.net and I will post a response to some of those questions on my Blog.

Yours in Performance Training,

SYL APPS CENTRE HAS ATHLETIC FUTURE

Parisians may finally learn the fate of the Syl Apps arena once the ice surface disappears for good this spring. The revitalization of the downtown arena as an indoor year round facility could soon be underway.

A county committee has been struggling to find life for the downtown Paris facility, a mainstay of the community, after its ice surfaces disappear next year when the new twin pad opens. The committee, that includes all four Paris councillors, decided Monday night to ask county council to proceed with an RFP process to convert the arena so that it could be used all year round as a multi purpose venue. Preliminary estimates peg the conversion costs at about $250,000.

4SSVB - Four Season Sports Volleyball

4SSVBFour Season Sports is excited to unveil and share our latest addition to the 4SS family of sports – 4SSVB. With a date
still yet to be determined 4SSVB – Four Season Sports Volleyball is a sport that has amazing potential for growth. Currently there are no active beach volleyball leagues in the Brant County area. It is an untapped market with opportunity for leagues, tournaments and exciting showcase events. It offers those wanting to play in our community an opportunity to do just that and those outside users looking for competition a new venue to experience the game.

We will not stop there as our passion is for sport and its ability to bring people together. Once 4SSVB is up and running we will host the 1st Annual Corporate Cup Challenge that will bring business together to compete against one another in an exciting sporting atmosphere. More details to follow in the spring.

4SSRH Purchases Ice Court Pro Inline Floor

Ice Court ProAlways looking to improve our roller hockey programs 4SSRH is proud to announce the purchase of Ice Court Pro inline flooring. The floor has just over one full year of usage and will be a welcome addition to the CRHL – Canning Roller Hockey League which is the mens league as well as the youth and ladies programs scheduled for the 2010 season.
The following is an excerpt directly from the Ice Court website. www.icecourt.com
IceCourt Pro was designed to simulate the same feel, skating characteristics and puck behaviour as ice hockey while using inline skates. It was designed to be left in place during winter, by freezing it in the ice. The combination of a faster puck together with a super fast skating surface has made the game of inline hockey as exciting as ice hockey.

WHAT'S NEW FOR 4SS IN 2010?

We have begun the process of looking into a specialized floor for the Syl Apps Community Centre. This will be a rather large investment but one that we know will improve the league. The questions that I get asked when I talk about purchasing a floor are great questions and I thought I would share them and give you all an opportunity to read. Will the cost to play in the league increase? Will you switch from a ball to a puck? Since this is the last ice season coming up at Syl Apps will you look to run leagues all year round? Is Four Season Sports looking to run any other sports out of Syl Apps?

DID YOU KNOW?

Roller hockey was one of three demonstration sports included in the official Olympic programme of the 1992 Summer Olympics, held in Barcelona. This sport's widespread popularity and the existence of top-level competitive teams in Catalonia (such as FC Barcelona and Reus Deportiu Hockey) prompted the Organizing Committee to suggest its inclusion in the Olympic programme.
